eeek! I agree, I am going to cause chaos between those from CA and TX, but in the end, I'm confident enough to say that the majority will agree that Texas is like the smelly overweight evil hick stepsister of California

Everythings bigger in Texas including its inferior complex! Sometimes, second place really suxxx!!!

So how is it overrated? By what standard of measurement are you basing such judgment?

In my opinion, Texas cities are waaay too overrated, then again, people don't really rate them to begin with. Texas cities kind of remind me of the NEW Florida -- people in them do their best to mimic what they aspire to be (Californian), but in the end, lack the resources and capabilities to pull such endeavor off, so in the end, they just look like an even bigger mess!!!
don't bother with 'Sweetclimber's" opinion, fool has a HUGE chip on his shoulder with regards to San Diego and SF. In his early posts he talks about how much he loves SF but now bashes it every chance he gets, maybe he's bi-polar or something who knows....

no kidding though, I like our little podunk beach town the way it is. Although there is plenty of room for improvement and I think it's getting better every year in terms of development and such. I don't mind we tend to be in the shadow of SF and LA, people here don't have the ego's some people in those cities do. I can't stand it when people try to compare us to San Francisco, LA, Chicago, etc...b/c we are not even on the same level as those cities and don't try to be or care to be. Before I moved to San Diego I never even thought about it much at all or had any opinions about it besides it having a beaches and good weather. I came here b/c it was the best school I was accepted to and I fell in love with the place. I didn't have any expectations of what it should be and I think that is part of the problem, people expect too much sometimes from this city.

It is what it is and we don't try to be some wannabe European-esque cultural mecca of the west coast like SF. Are not constantly competing with NYC and Chicago for status like LA. Don't have the world class cultural amenities and don't give a sh*t b/c we got some damn good weather and nice scenery so it's enough for us for the most part. I've read someone describe SD as Omaha on the beach, not necessarily in a negative way either. But we are a fairly average American city but with some damn good weather and geography/location and I like that about it. It's a simple American city except with a killer climate, location, scenery, etc.. and that's fine with many of us. It's nice to get away from the pretentiousness of SF and the Bay Area and the mentality of it being the "best place on earth".

San Diego is what it is and we keep it real!

Sounds like someone is bitter! Don't get your panties in a twist because you can't handle opinions. SD is a wannabe LA and always will be. By the way have fun with the yearly fires in the "paradise"!

Nicely stated! Too bad I can't add to your Reputation. Let's not forget our stunningly aesthetic topography! Something sweetclimber can only visually imagine. San Diego actually is much more urban then its given redit cor, so in that sense, its actually UNDERrated. I go to CCDC.com and amcpleased where downtown is headed. At least we have something to look forward to while more established cities are done pleasing its citizens. Remember the saying, half the fun is getting there!

haha, bitter? where the hell do you get that from? If anything is bitter it's 99% of your posts. The last thing SD wants to be like is LA, that is pretty much the example SD tries to avoid on so many levels. Some of us don't have an obsession with being the next Alpha World City like Houston's delusional residents like yourself.

Actually I enjoyed last year's October wildfires b/c I got 3 days off of work. Did you enjoy all the deaths from your Hurricane Rita evacuation that didn't even hit Houston? Or maybe the billions of dollars of damage that was worse than either of SD's fires from Tropical Storm Allison in 2001. Hurricane season isn't over and TX is on tap for it's 2nd hurricane of the season already. Have fun in that 100+ degree steam room you call Houston.

Yearly? Take a history lesson. Also, maybe houston can learn from San Diegos orderly evacuation warnings and from the over-generous mind set of its self dependent and self reliant citizens. Next time Houston has a hurricane warning, don't forget to bring an extra gas can, I don't want you to run out of gas like many houstoners did during your cities botched voluntary evacuation order

agreed, CCDC has done a great job at revitalizing downtown. We just need to hurry up and get a nice waterfront b/c I feel it's being wasted with all those parking lots and old Navy building there now.
