Not that good compared to what? Name some current non-Bay Area artists who are clearly head and shoulders above anyone in the Bay Area.
I'll admit that when I made my list; I wasn't as informed of the rap scene as I am now. I knew about the Bay area and I still can't believe I left it out.
Not going to lie. LA has some pretty great underground artists right now. Also, thankfully, Houston rappers are getting away from the ima come down and man I'm so trill flow that dominated Houston in the late 90s. I was starting to get worried about Houstons scene the last couple years.

However, you get lots of mixed reactions from the Houston crowd because that type of sound and culture is so ingrained into the hip hop culture here. I've been hearing lots of good new artists from out of Houston lately.

Yeah guys, in hind sight, now that I'm 22yrs old, all that "I'mma come dine, and still sippin lean" stuff was overrated, but some gems came out of it. But being in middle school in 01-04, that stuff was cool to us. Fat Pat was the best at that lean inspired flow and everyone kinda ran with it after he died and after Ghetto Dreams came out posthumously. I was kinda too young to remember when he passed, I was only 8 and had only been in Texas(Austin) for 2yrs. By the way, Ghetto Dreams is an H-Town classic(Heard it a couple months ago for the 1st time). But The Geto Boys are the kings of the Houston scene, and arguably the whole South. And Big Moe is another artist that was one of my all-time favorites. R-I-P M-O-E.
