The Los Angeles Kings and Philadelphia Flyers were both founded in 1967.
The Lakers have been in Los Angeles longer than the Bulls and 76ers have been in Chicago and Philadelphia, respectively.
And the Dodgers have accomplished much more than the Red Sox, Cubs, and Phillies have since 1958 (when they moved to LA).
The Sox have been in Boston, in Fenway, longer than any LA team has been in Los Angeles. I have sat in the same seat as someones Great-Great-Grandfather. The Celtics and Bruins where there longer than the Lakers and Kings.
Outside of Boston Philly has a stronger Fan base because a greater % of the population lived there in 1967 or 1970, than that of LA today.
They're passionate about the Eagles and Flyers, and recently the Phillies because they got good. They could care less about the Sixers though.
Sixers vs. Lakers attendance rankings:
01- 5th vs. 8th
02- 3rd vs. 8th
03- 4th vs. 9th
04- 4th vs. 7th
05- 10th vs. 7th
06- 21st vs. 7th
07- 29th vs. 7th
08- 23rd vs. 11th
09- 23rd vs. 8th
10- 26th vs. 7th
11- 25th vs. 8th
12- 14rh vs. 8th
That drop coincides with losing Iverson and the team falling hard. The Sixers suck and have been largely irrelevant the last 5+ years (with the exception of this year as evidenced by the bump in attendance), so I can see why.
The early 00s, they had higher attendance figures than the Lakers did.
The Minnesota North Stars used to be at half capacity before they moved. I wouldnt necessarily call it a poor hockey market, would you?
Attendance isnt the be-all end-all for how passionate a fanbase is. The Lakers have never finished higher than 7th but nobody would question their popularity or success.
Atlanta is definitely the worst.....Such a small percentage of native Atlantans actually live in the city and it's inundated with out-of-towners that support their own cities. It sucks.

This is stupid. I have seen this argument used before, but what you fail to realize is that the Lakers are always at capacity. The Lakers' capacity for whatever reason is 18,997. There are teams in the league that have higher capacity than that. The Lakers just about always max out at 100%. Even the Clippers, for whatever reason have a higher capacity in the same building than the Lakers. The Clippers are able to expand to over 19,000.
Going be attendance alone is supid, always go by percentage.

Gonna have to go with Boston. Those people would throw their firstborns into a lake of burning lead if it meant the Yankees would lose. You gotta respect that kind of devotion.

Yeah, the 2nd part is defintely true. But the 1st part... no one wants to live in the city with our traffic.. ontop of the fact that as far as employment goes its really spread out here, most people dont even work in ATL proper, and you dont really get a quality area anywhere in ATL that the traffic wont spoil except very few parts... so why live IN Atlanta after all that?
Best Fans:
Seattle for soccer
Chicago or Boston for baseball
Chicago or New York for basketball
I don't really care for football and haven't been paying attention to it but I think that Green Bay or Pittsburgh are good?
Maybe Boston for hockey
Worst Fans:
Florida fans in general. Look at a Marlins or Rays game. The stadium is empty. I also think that Phoenix doesn't have a strong sports culture along but they don't have bad fans.
