Boise - Not really a very pretty area, I don't enjoy the climate, and it seems a little too un-progressive.
Las Vegas - Ew. 'nough said.
Phoenix - Too hot for life. For such a big city, it's SO boring. It really is like one giant suburb.
Tucson - I have not heard good things...
It's a shame you're too hung up on being "progressive" to really see that all of these cities have nice things to offer. I wonder if you've even visited all of these places...

Cities I Wouldn't Visit Or Live
Santa Fe
Tucson

I've been to all these cities except Austin and Salt Lake City I don't know much about them but I would love to visit them sometime!
