Austin - didnt look nearly as cool as they say. The music scene is quite confined seemingly, and even there there wasnt anything going on a weekday. Maybe I would have had to have gone during the college schoolyear and on a weekend to see the hype. Not much else going on in the city, just did not look interesting from the urban perspective.
Albuquerque - amazing architecture. THe people seem quite insular and isolated feeling in general.
Boise - way too conservative, too many mormon and very conservative politics. Viewing their forum, it seems like every racist white guy in america is trying to move to Boise and Boise seems to welcoming that kind.
Denver - Downtown is pretty cool, but quickly surrounded by scummy areas just nearby. It also closes down early. Then just pure suburban sprawl everywhere.
Las Vegas - very new apartments and houses...world class international entertainment...a lot of crime and feels dangerous in areas, and not walkable outside of the tourist areas...but plenty of interesting places to go - casinos - to be quickly entertained, even if just walking around or seeing a movie or going bowling in them.
Minneapolis - very cold. skyway system downtown is really cool. people are great, politics is great.
Phoenix - spread out and hot. very car-centric. takes forever to get anywhere. tempe is pretty cool spot though, if you dont mind being surrounded by college kids 24/7.
Portland - great downtown, very cool place...bookstore galore, etc.
Salt Lake City - too conservative. huge streets. mormon stuff everywhere, and they like to discuss how gambling is bad or get you into their church.
Santa Fe - overpriced, but gorgeous.
Tucson - not as cool as youd think. cool architecture though. hate the dusty and dirty flying across the highways all the time between phoenix and tucson. cool looking city, but mostly just poor mexican or college students in the city, and then rich suburbanites who are even more strange just outside of the city limits. just a bizarre place, in my opinion.

You're correct about a couple of these things and "dirt" wrong on some others. While there are many rich suburbanites living outside of the city limits, there are more citizens who live within the city limits who are neither poor, Mexican, nor college students. In addition, I thought we were talking about the city of Tucson, not the area between it and Phoenix, and there's 90 miles between the two metros, so I'm not quite sure why you're so concerned about the dust you say flies across the highways way out there "all the time" (hardly likely).

Portland - Lived there and loved it. I love the climate and the culture (I'm a Northwestern native of course) and the people and the scenery and how vibrant and clean and safe and (arguably) progressive (or at least liberal) it is.
Would consider living in...
Denver - A little generic, but seems like a nice town anyway.
Santa Fe - Very interesting and also in a beautiful area.
Austin - Except for the weather, I might be able to handle it.
These seem nice, but...
Albuquerque - Crime!
Salt Lake City - Beautiful area, but too un-progressive!
Minneapolis - If it weren't Antarctica half the year then I totally might live there...
Thanks, but no thanks...
Boise - Not really a very pretty area, I don't enjoy the climate, and it seems a little too un-progressive.
Las Vegas - Ew. 'nough said.
Phoenix - Too hot for life. For such a big city, it's SO boring. It really is like one giant suburb.
Tucson - I have not heard good things...
