I think everyone here understands and has acknowledged that Atlanta has more quality schools, but I think the fact that many people feel that Houston Rice has the better education and better quality of life for students is why some are picking HOU over ATL.
Maybe so,but I was just responding to some one else that kept bringing up "just" Rice and Emory, but failed to name any other highly ranked schools.
So is the discussion about who has the best black schools or who has the best schools in general?
If we are talking about schools in general I would say they are all evenly matched.
Atlanta= Emory
Houston = Rice
Dallas= SMU
As for black schools, I have no idea. From the discussion so far on here the only ones I know of are TSU and PVU and that's because I live in Houston. I've never heard of the other ones mentioned. I work with a few TSU and PVU alumni and I would say they are good schools since they put out good alumni.

No they are about schools in general but sometimes schools that are predominately black get left out of the picture.I agree they are about evenly matched.I brought up Morehouse and Spelman because they are considered "Black Ivy".They are a major feeder to graduate schools schools like Harvard to Yale,to etc.....
To be honest I knew that it had some good schools,but I did not put it in the other category because it did not have a large number(quanity).Hence a lack of students like the other cities.I was on the fence at first.That was my point with having a big student populace that interacts in the city.Pittsburgh has done all that it can do to become the success it is today,but some things you just cant change or require to much to change.Along with the other schools, Georgia State University which is downtown Atlanta has grown to almost 30,000 students now!
Well, CMU and Duquesne are about ten thousand each, and UPitt is about 30,000. There are about another half dozen institutions in the city and another half dozen within the metro, so Pittsburgh is significant when it comes to quantity as well. As far as education goes, Pittsburgh deserves a place on your list--however, its success in education doesn't make up for numerous other disadvantages in comparison to the other cities you've listed. Education is important, especially "top-tier" education, but it's seldom the dominant force for an entire city.

Well I say Atlanta because we have more schools in higher education. Thats what this poll was orginally about which city offers higher education. You would think that people would get that when we have more schools that are of higher education vs Houston or Dallas. Is Rice the only school in Houston of Higher education because people keep stressing that.

Several of those schools are nationally ranked for their undergraduate programs or graduate programs. The best known school would be Rice, and that is why it's mentioned so much. They actually hosted a G8 Summit.

Houston does have some good schools, but Atlanta's schools just beat the pants off of all of them academically.
