anyplace is " cool" if you are; houston/dallas doesn't matter. When someone tells me how hip/liberal/eccentric a place is I take it with a grain of salt; anybody who drives around their respective areas of a city and comments on how "cool" and "eccentric" of a community they live in is obviously lost on what it means to be "cool"and "eccentric". I think a lot of these "pro my area of town" types are undercover realtors. that's all peace.

Will Houston's Metro surpass DFW', will they be twins, or will DFW always be larger?

In my opinion, I always thought Houston had the potential to surpass DFW, but it probably won't happen unless DFW experiences a considerable slowdown in its growth rate, and Houston experiences a slight increase.

Currently, DFW has a sizeable lead over Greater Houston, so in the short-term, I wouldn't bet on Houston surpassing DFW. After say, 15-25 years, and DFW slows down a bit, maybe we can talk about Houston surpassing it, and thats assuming Houston doesn't slow down.

With that said, DFW hasn't a big enough of a lead, that its impossible for Houston to overtake N.Texas in population, just keeping in mind that its not likely for that to materialize in the next few(1-3, imo) decades.

I doubt it. Unless Houston releases its ETJ and lets some of its suburbs become their own cities, so they can have their own draw (like in DFW). I think they'll be growing at similar numbers, but one will start pulling away from the other. I say Houston will.

From the 2009 census, it looks like only DFW (+2.3) and Houston (+2.5) are battling it out with the population growth.

Yep. DFW has added more residents than any other metro area in the US since 2000. Metro Houston is number 3 on that list, but could over take Atlanta by next year for the number 2 spot. Both have added more than one million new residents. Thats crazy!

DFW has been pulling away from Houston for a while now. DFW is just overall more attractive than Houston.

I guess Houston's high humidity scares people away. I don't know what else it would be.
