I really wish you knew what you were talking about, but you dont. Youve never been to Texas and I dont think youll ever come. You dont want to destroy what you have it worked up in your head to be.
People around the world do know of the major cities here (Dallas and Houston). I would know. I dont care how much youve traveled (not much appearantly), Ive traveled more. Ive been to Moscow, Hong Kong (lived here for 6 months), and Mexico City in the last 3 months. I always tell people, "I live in Dallas". Never once have I had someone ask me where that was. Everyone knows its in Texas and everyone knows its a big city.
Yes, I have been to Texas. I went to an Astros game about a month ago and wasn't impressed at all. Not a big city. And no, you have not traveled more than me according to your list.

My list??? What list? That was the last three months.
You want a list do ya? Ok, here are the countries Ive been to:
UK, France, Norway, Sweeden, Finland, Germany, Italy, Russia, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, India, Lebanon (to visit family), China, Japan (lived there for a year), South Korea, Hong Kong (if thats seperate), Vietnam, Thailand (wife is from there), Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Taiwan, Cambodia, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Mexico, Canada, El Salvador, Costa Rica, Peru, Chile, Uruguay, and Brazil.
I might be missing one or two. I work for the airlines on their reservation systems. Always on the go.
Now then, have you been to all continents except Antarctica Rachael?
Well, I could name A LOT more cities in Europe than London, Paris, and Rome. Your European friends need a lesson in geography and foriegn culture. I know that Glasgow is known for having one of the best music scenes in Europe, Dublin has become s major tech hub in Europe, and Warsaw is a rising economic power and has produced a few internationally renowned architects and designers.
I'm surprised how ignorant you are of cities in your own country. Everyone I've met from New Jersey and New York know about Austin's reputation for being a really cool city. Of course, Austin is known for being a town for independent music and independent film, so if you have been left out of the loop that tells me either (or both):
a) your old
b) you have bad taste
Probably an import question that needs to be asked have you ever been to Austin? If you did why and where did you go?
I was born in the NYC metro area and lived in NJ for awhile. I disagree with this post. People in NJ don't care about Austin. Some of them care about Houston and Dallas, but not Austin. Peopel in NJ don't talk about Austin or have any desire to live there.

All the people I have met traveling the world ALL knew of Atlanta.
We hosted a little party back in 1996. Perhaps you even heard about it way up on Long Island.
When did New York host the Olympics again?
New York City has never hosted the Oympics and never will. The reason for this is simply because they dont have the space. New Jersey could do the Olympics for NYC, but that would never happen. Atlanta has tons of space though for any event of this magnitude because its not as dense.

I think Austin tends to appeal more to people from the West Coast. Dallas and Houston draw more people from the East. In LA, when I would tell people I was moving to either Dallas or Houston, they would immidately start talking about Austin even though none had really ever been there.
