I'd say that it fits the general perception of most in the area (the vast majority find the GCMA to be safe) ...except Hunting Valley ...must have some seriously unruly deer out there.

I think 100% of my neighbors in Cleveland would say we feel safe. Not so in some areas.

I agree, but I think the cross section is fairly accurate. 60% of the residents of Cleveland either feel safe or indifferent. My guess is that isn't much different than most bigger cities. What the survey does say is that the overwhelming majority of the GCMA feels very safe in their surroundings. And, as we locals know, the city proper is only about 10% of the GCMA in land area and 20% in population. Basically, about 95% of the population in Greater Cleveland feels they live in a safe area. That isn't the picture that is often painted by the media.

Ha! Well, it appears that there were only two respondents from Hunting Valley... so I'd say that's not statistically significant enough to draw a conclusion.

East Cleveland residents, in general, also apparently don't feel very safe... I'd say no surprise there.

I too would like to have seen the city of Cleveland broken down by neighborhood. I'd imagine there's a vast difference in perception of safety between, say, Kinsman and Kamm's Corners.

Also the Clifton-Lake area between Lakewood and the Shoreway is very safe.

We went to Little Italy on Saturday. Walked all around the neighborhood, not just the main drag. That area is so awesome. I just love the architecture.
Noticed a lot of Asian residents, walking around and playing in the park with kids. Hospital employees maybe? Good to see. Lil Italy could use a bit more diversity.

If Little Italy got diversified...it wouldn't be Little "ITALY" anymore.

In my opinion, that is what went wrong with Cleveland in the past 20 years. We lost our "pockets" of culture. Everything used to be separated by ethnic groups. And it was awesome. Now...everythign is mixed up and what was once amazing cultural neighborhoods are run down by thugs.

i agree. Little Italy has become a trendy spot and is losing some of its Italian luster. But Italians ahave moved on to the suburbs and are emigrating anymore so its only a matter of time.

You only have to go down to the Feast of the Assumption, which was this weekend to see how much things have changed.


Slavic Village is not even close to being predominatly 'slavic'.


Any white with a decent job flees to the suburbs and I dont really blame them.


But Little Italy is still a nice place to live. Its buffered from the decay and the residents keep it up. Most properties are still Italian owed they just rent to alot of college students from Case.
