1) When people are natives of an area they tend to overlook things/places/events as being run-of-the-mill when they may be awesomely interesting to someone from elsewhere. In that case, it's helpful to have outside advice from others on what may fall into that category.

2) The title of the post: "I need to know what has changed." Native or not, if I've left the area, I wouldn't necessarily know about what has come into existence since I left the area.

I know it's not for everyone, but I always take people to that cool cemetery (is it Lakeview? Lakeside?) on the east side where president Garfield is buried. The monument is a tower and you can see the lake from the top.

Oh, and I guess I should add that the trip is long over, but my friend and I both had a *great* time and he left with the impression that everyone is ridiculously nice in Cleveland... even the, um, mentally deficient folks who panhandle and ask you deeply inappropriate personal questions in the process.
