The sand will always shift, hurricanes and nor-easters will happen, they need to let this bridge go and Hwy 12 also give up idea of building another bridge and allocate the money on robust ferry system and sand buggy taxi plus rentals for those without 4 wheel drive.
IMO most of tourists who stay in Nags Head and north just want to go to Hatteras or Ocracoke so they could create a ferry that loads in Nags Head and off loads in Avon or Buxton.

Making people drive to and from Stumpy Point will KILL Hatteras Island.

I wonder if there's still an exception for emergency vehicles.

Can people still walk, or bicycle across?

Gov. McCrory and Transportation Secretary Tony Tata both lay blame for the current Bonner Bridge situation on the Southern Environmental Law Center, which has tried to block the state from building a replacement bridge, proposing instead a costly 17-mile-long bridge.

I enjoy the ferry ride to Ocracoke. It does just fine with ferry only service. Put another ferry going to Hatteras.

Spending hundreds of millions to build another bridge is crazy.

You are freaking insane to think Hatteras can survive on ferry service alone
