We are planning a "staycation" this summer, heading from Denver down to Colorado Springs for 3 days/2 nights.

Our son will be 3 this summer and we plan on going to the zoo, and the North Pole, and I have a whole list of other ideas.

My question is....what to do once the sun sets? It's a vacation, so I don't want to just sit in the the hotel every night after dinner. Any ideas of kid friendly night time activies?

Thanks!

Mr. Biggs Family Fun Center is one place that might work.

I would think a nice indoor pool would entertain a 3 year old until bed time .

Sky Sox baseball game?

Sky Sox often have Friday night fireworks, at the end of the game, might be too late for a 3-year old.

Well, you could easily leave the game whenever you want.

Itz is something like Mr. Biggs. The Citadel mall has that glow-in-the-dark indoor putt-putt place. I think the penny arcade in Manitou is open after dark.

My family would often bring cards and board games or do camping type-things like making smores or hobo dinners over a camp fire - if we don't have fire restrictions, you could do that at a park in those barbecue things - just watch the closing time of the park - probably 10 or 11 p.m., but some may close at dark.

Your toddler would probably enjoy Uncle Wilbur during the day, by the way - and that is nice and free!

But do keep in mind that in summer the sun sets pretty late - in June it gets dark as late as after 9p.m. - I would think a 3-year-old is probably just about past bedtime by then.

The zoo is open until 6:00 p.m. in summer, after the zoo, stop at The Broadmoor, take a stroll around the lake and let your child watch the geese and swans, then maybe a light dinner and some ice cream listening to music at the Golden Bee.

You could also drive up to Woodland Park and go to the Rocky Mountain Dinosaur Resource Center. It's really cool and if your son is into dinosaurs, he'll be in heaven. Follow it up with dinner at the Historical Ute Inn for a Ute Burger, and finish off the day playing in Memorial park and lake in Woodland Park.

Good point, I forgot the sun doesn't set by 6:00 in the summer lol!
See what winter does to me

Thank you all so much, great suggestions. Sounds like our "staycation" will be fantastic!

Hey Marcy. When you "stop at the Broadmoor", what do you mean?

We would take our kids to the zoo and Will Rogers Shrine, then come down the hill, park the car at the Broadmoor and walk around the lake and have a light dinner at The Golden Bee. Then head up 24 home to Divide.
