First of all I wanna thank especially Mike for his amazing work in this forum, which has been a great help for me in the last months. Today I do would need some advice myself.

My husband (Greencardholder) and I (dual citizen of USA and germany) are relocating in 12 days up to Fountain, where we will be staying in a friend's house for the first weeks. My husband has tried over months to find a job in COS from our location here in Texas, but no luck. Since we really don't wanna spend another unbeliebable hot summer here, we saved up enough money and will leave without jobs up there yet. Now the probelm ist this: My husband is an mechanical engineer and also has a Master in Managment. For the last 3 years he worked at Halliburton in the field service department (gas/oil). his new job doesn't have to be exactly the same (since we know oil is not that big there, but still there), but still kind of related to it. Now I've recieved a mail from somebody warning us, that he won't get a job in COS, since the management positions and so on are mostly not for GC-holders, but citizens (given the clearance thingen you need for a lot of companies up there). So my question is, would it be maybe smarter to move to a place such as Monument for example, in order that his chances are better to maybe also find something in Denver?? Should it really be such a big of a problem for him in COS? About how long is the comute from Monument to Denver? And how is Monument at all?

Thanks so much for your respond!

Monument is only about 12 miles North of COS, so you're not gaining very much in what has now become a very heavy traffic corridor heading to Denver in peak traffic hours AM & PM.

Monument is primarily a bedroom community, with super access to the shopping of COS, or North to Castle Rock and then up to Denver.

With COS being such a military/defense contractor area, the non US citizen issue is going to be a big deal when trying to get a job in the area in your husband's line of work.

I'd suggest he look into contractors doing public works projects or similar. There are a number of new power plant projects going in throughout the region, or engineering firms based here that are involved with these projects, for example. Some were staffing up last fall, having recently been awarded big contracts.

Thanks so much for your answer, sunsprit!

You do not happen to know some names of the new companies, do you?

FWIW, I used to work for a tire company that had a place in Brighton. One of our customers was actually Haliburton.

Yep, it's way north of C Springs but they did have a location up there. Might be worth looking into.

Check with El Paso gas, I heard they might be hiring awhile back. Don't know what type of positions.
