So even though an overwhelming majority of voters voted against 66, he still wants to keep trying on a bill that not many people wanted?

After reading the article, the Gates family and Bloomberg put up 1million to promote the bill. Now together they easily could have written a check for the 1billion the bill would raise in taxes, or at least make a substantial contribution to inner city schools that do struggle. No instead the party that promotes the middle class, wants the bill to be the burden of the middle class.

Since the end-state is educational reform. Yes. Though most people want educational reform without any added cost, which will be difficult to accomplish. If Amendment 66 was just an approval everything that would have been added (kindergarten, revised funding formulas, new evaluation standards, etc.) w/o the means to pay for it, it would have passed 60% to 40%. Probably more.

There's a similar battle that will be brewing next year over transportation funding and the proposed sales tax increase. Everyone wants new/refurbished transportation infrastructure. No one wants to pay for it.

Who gives two ****s about the inner city schools? They are well-funded and are seeing some pretty decent improvements due to local education reform (see the resounding victory of reformers in the DPS Board election). It's the rural schools, and places with lousy property tax bases, that will taking the hit on Amendment 66's failure.

Calling Amendment 66 reform is misleading. There wasn't any reform involved, just more money and more expansion of the system. Reform is going to require the entrenched interests - you know the ones constantly bleating about it being "for the kids" - to accept some fundamental changes to the system. If I read CCSD's budget correctly, the district is spending $40 million per year (and rising) to fund PERA and even that's not enough to keep it from continuing on a slide toward insolvency and a taxpayer bailout. That's *&^%ing ridiculous.

Does the website work yet? If you like your MD can you keep your MD?

Huge flaw Obama made for himself. ACA needs young adults to buy into it. However, he also passed a bill where you can stay on your parents insurance till your 26. There will not be enough people on it to carry it. THe Dems should have delayed it for a yr. That would have avoided the shutdown.

BTW its the role of Congress to approve a budget for the executive branch. It does not have to be everything they want, or cover it. President only has the power to persuade, and hes not good at that. Only not keeping promises.

There again, if Gates and Bloomberg are so concerned, put up the money themselves.

Yeah, I'm not up to speed on the transportation bill. I would love a great Euro style transportation. Problem will be once again, middle class and above will pay for it, but there will be stops in the ghetto. See the ATL MARTA. Some stops look like refugee camps.
