Correct. The East is just full of small towns and rural living, as far as eye can see in some areas. West has vast empty areas.

here's a photo I took in Washington east of the Cascades. Not quite like Colorado, but I think somewhat similar. Houses close together in the town very little development outside of the town

Love the mountains in close proximity. Coming from farm country, appreciate relatively clean rivers. Mild climate along the front range. There is a considerable "mountain " tax in high cost of living without an equivalent bump in salaries.

I've called it "Missouri With Mountains" in the past because of the two states' similarities in governance, low taxes/bad roads, etc. "Pretzelvania" is another pseudonym that comes to mind, as in what a state budget resembles having to comply with TABOR.

It's a good place if you can bring your own money/job or have a career that's in strong demand. Boom-bust cycles can really nail you when things go bust...be frugal and pay down house as quickly as reasonably possible.

Permanent disability brought me here, but I live in not very posh Fremont County. If I were still working, all in all I would have stayed in the Midwest.

From the looks of it, most of you guys seem to really like Colorado. I think I will consider moving there.

Depending on where you move to/live, it can definitely cost you! Parts of The Front Range has become quite populated, much more than when we lived 28 miles south of Denver near Lone Tree. However, even though we moved away in late 2007, we are seriously considering moving back, but this time to Loveland area. We will both be retired by "move time" and early 70's.

For the 5 1/2 years we lived there, we absolutely loved The Eastern Slope and done many, many things.

The Plus: The excellent, arid climate allows year-round outdoor activities of various nature in most of the state and the climate keeps utility bills low (at least for us), rarely requiring the use of A/C in the summer for example.

The economy is booming and now is a prime time for investment growth on your home or investment properties, gorgeous scenery at every turn.

The minus: As more people pour in, traffic is becoming worse in many built up areas along the Front Range and I-70 corridors, the cost of living is climbing and with lots of newcomers, the general atmosphere isn't as friendly or welcoming as other parts of the country.

Overall: Love it and the best move I've made.

It depends. You can cut down heat by opening windows only at night, closing them first thing in the morning, pulling all blinds/shades down. Then open at night and turn on fans. Ceiling fans help.

I remember retreating to the basement as a kid. The coolness feels good, but on a humid day the basement gets clammy
