We did go that way. We didn't go that way to avoid any hard terrain either. I had the 4WD engaged and we wanted to see a little snow.

Coming from the east, had we turned south at 285 at Poncha Springs, we would have missed Monarch Pass and the Continental Divide twice.

In fact, that pic of the Continental Divide sign at Cochetopa Pass was on 114, I think. We added probably an hour, hour and a half going that way, but I don't think I've ever been that way before. Continental Divide or not, it was a pretty nice road, like you say.

What I wanted to get a pic of, but it wasn't practical at the time, was that sign somewhere around Cotopaxi that says, "Now this is the real Colorado!"

Yep, Cotopaxi, Texas Creek, Coaldale, and my favorite town Howard! Love the sign that says they have 1000 plus friendly people and 3 soreheads!. Love them Sangre De Cristos! Good to hear Cochetopa is in good shape road wise, it's been a few years since I've been through there. I've spent the night a few times in Monte Vista, nice town!
