Jersey Mikes is also really good, but we always went to Larry's before we moved here. They are all over the place in Florida.

In fact I think you are due a trip to Lexington - there are actual stores there! There are also acres and acres of prime commercial real estate for sale between Cola and Lex - just waiting for the recession to be over. Honda is already up and running (moved from Cola). Peeps in Lex can shop at Target, KM, WM, World Mkt, Publix, Best Buy, PetSmart, Golds gym, Kohls, TJM, Lazy Boy Gallery (just moved from Forest Acres), Lowes, Home Depot, lots of little boutique type stores and foodie places, 24-carat organic foods, and so on. Lexington Med Center, the beach at the dam, the dam walk/jogging trail, great school district. Work is set to start on upgrading all the intersections on hwy 378. Beautiful lake homes and historic homes.

You need to get out and about!
Yay! Because who needs trees when we can have strip malls? Gotta love sprawl.

Exactly - dense urban development is much better for the environment and much better for interaction with other people. Unfortunately, too many people think an acre of land and a privacy fence is the way to go.

You call what is going on in Lexington sprawl?

I guess one man's progress is another man's sprawl.

Viva la difference.

Strip malls with surface parking lots are the epitome of suburban sprawl.

People packed in like sardines living so close that you can smell what your neighbor had to eat for dinner last night is the epitome of urban denseness.

Give it a rest Matt.

There is nothing nicer than a clean, well-developed downtown are with shops, restaurants, and things for people to do. I think Columbia is trying hard to get the downtown in shape, and some of it looks pretty good.

As for the sprawl, there is nothing uglier than driving along past another Wal-Mart shopping center, Target, the limitless and completely uneccessary Walgreens and CVS's, etc, etc. Maybe it's because I grew up in the country, but I don't see plowing down several acres of trees and flopping down a strip mall as progress. We need to build up, not out.

Would I dare do something like that to someone as wise and powerful as you?

Try a little tolerance for other points of view sparky. It might do wonders for you.
