More CSU Housing Set for Downtown

As enrollment numbers continue to rise at Columbus State University, so has the demand for student housing.

Construction is underway in uptown Columbus for two new CSU housing sites. Crews are making way for 31 beds inside the One Arsenal Place" building off Dillingham Street and 24 beds at the Oglethorpe on First Avenue, which is connected to the Rankin Building.

The project is worth 1.6 million dollars and will bring the total number of students living in uptown to more than 400. The new housing is expected to be ready for the 2012 fall semester.

$32.5 million City Service Center Project On Schedule

Midtown Columbus continues to grow. Construction continues on schedule on the site of the planned City Service Center on the Macon Road.

Construction crews are doing foundation work on the site, which will be home to a 63,000-square-foot City Service Center, a 375-space parking garage, and a 51,000-square-foot natatorium.

Next is construction on the Muscogee County Public Education Center.

Ground was broken on the $32.5 million project in September and construction is still set to end on May 6, 2013. It is being funded primarily from a bond issue financed by the 2008 Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax and in part with funds from the 1999 SPLOST.

The projects are being built by a partnership of two companies -- Brasfield & Gorrie of Kennesaw, Ga., and Humphreys Associates of Columbus.
