Two options.

You can get a Mac.

You can use Linux.

Still, nearly 95% of companies today use Microsoft software. Best Buy, Office Depot, Staples...all sell computers preloaded with Windows software.

Who cares what companies use, im not going to do something because a company does it. Best Buy, Office Depot and Staples sell premade POS machines IMHO. They leave 80% of what they sell short on RAM so they can screw customers for the second time. I know at the Clayton New Mexico Torusim Dept and Chamber of Commerce, 3 out of 5 machines are running Linux. One is for development, one is a general machine for office duties and their free box they offer for tourists. Life is great here. Saved circa $900 by not buying Windows * and their office products.

Yes, but since I don't OWN a computer--I'm stuck with whatever is available to ME.

Which means IBM-compatibles.

Sorta funny story...

A friend of mine called me up for computer help. His Network Card wasn't working on his computer, but if he put it in another computer, it worked. I came over and looked at it. First words out of my mouth were, "I see the problem... you have Vista. My work here is done!"

Turns out his driver was corrupted and he had to re-install Vista - since I was NOT going to play in the registry.

I would just reinstall the driver provided by the cards manufacture, in which the person should still have the original disk for.

Agree! That is like someone cutting their finger and the doctor tears their heart out to stop the bleeding!
