My sweet dh just told me I could get a new computer soon. I have been wanting one of those swift all-in-ones and I am wondering if anyone here has one and can recommend a brand.
There seem to be a lot of strange brands out there. MSI, Asus, Averatec, the list goes on and on. I'm a little hesitant to buy a computer from a company I never heard of before. I see that Lenovo and HP make an all-in-one model (I am a pretty strong HP fan). But if you have any recommendations or cautions, I would sure love to hear them. Thanks.
What do you mean by all in one? Any computer can do anything except in some specific circumstances like high end gaming or where specific specs are required for some hardware and software.
You buy a computer for what you need and for probably 90% of the people out there that are going to use it for email, surfing the web, Word documents and basic image manipulation that means the cheapest machine they can find. Just make sure it has 2GB of RAM if it's Vista...
Maybe one day. They sure are intriguing, but I just don't think they are ready for prime time.
You can get higher specs very easily in common desktops for less money.
To the OP, the brand names you mentioned are not unknown names, they are very well known to those in the industry, Asus and MSI make quality products. I personally don't recomend all in ones as they are basically laptop components in an LCD housing, once the warranty expires they can be very expensive to fix, but if you must have one, pretty much any one but Sony, as long is as it gets good user reviews.
All-in-one is PCs answer to I-Mac.
If that's what you want, I'd go with the I-mac with the Intel chip. I don't usually recommend Macs, but they do that format well. iMac - Apple Store (U.S.)
If that's too pricey, I'd go with the Lenovo, which is the IBM laptop division. Lenovo - Desktop computers - IdeaCentre A Series

When it comes to "all-in-one" computers there is only one that is the real deal.....Apple's imac computer. Everything is a bad second rate copy of a brilliant Apple idea.
So by a Mac imac and never look back "cause you'll never have to!
P.S. Check out Apple's refurbished imacs at the online store to save a bundle of money on an imac with a full apple warranty same as new.
