Starwood info-That's unreal. We have gotten relos to nashville metro from Southern Kentucky. Those relos get squat-free land, no way, Jose, tax abatements, no way, Jose, because 1/3 to 1/2 the employers come to the new locale.

It shows the mayors in your region are focused on the grand list, the unemployed be damned.

JViello, You are not alone. Few governors achieve such unpopularity so quickly per the Quinnipiac poll.

Poll Shows voters Oppose Malloy's Tax Increases; Approval Rating Only 35% - Courant.com

I'm not surprised by this one bit. Tax increases never resonate positively with citizens during tough economic times.

Its also the fact most think he'll cave in to the union, and only Illinois and Ct new govs went for the jugular on increasing taxes, without cutting state employment costs prior to that. If Malloy does not get $2 bill, most likely he's a lame duck by the middle of this year, with Jimmy Carter type poll numbers (yes, his present #s would get worse). Weicker created a mess that led 250,000 to flee; Can Malloy top that?

Beeker 3/7/11 post:"Some people focus on the UTC CEO's words in part, because that's what made the headlines. What he said then and has spent the last year trying to backtrack was that CT is a good place to do the high end work, that it is worth the cost. Maybe you disagree but that's what he said, the other side of the coin. Can we do better? Certainly. But to look at other areas that are not comparable to ours and envy them for what we have? Really seems silly."

Thought on you when I read this article: (excerpt)

"Sikorsky president Jeffrey Pino put it the most bluntly: "I'll say what Greg didn't say. When we move work out of our home state, it goes to a lower-cost location.""

UTC putting more rubber to the road...the moving of 300 hourly positions out of state to a *gasp* lower cost area. I've said it before; they will eventually move every single hourly job out of this state. This will effectively break the IAM here in CT. UTC: United Technologies Corp. Plans To Move Work of 300 Machinists From Windsor Locks - Courant.com

I have been reading what your governor is doing and I must say it is extremely foolish and will hurt Connecticut in the long run.

But in this case, your article shows more of a "free trade" problem than a wasteful government problem. If you read toward the bottom of the article, they are moving their factories out of places like California, Germany and now Connecticut to places like Eastern Europe, Morocco and India. So in this regard, it is more the fault of the practices of the Federal government and not the State of Connecticut.

Should Connecticut really lower its safety and environmental standards, its worker salaries and its QOL to compete with third world countries? Should we reverse the progress made for the last 200 hundred years?

These btw are the true Union members who are under assault. We are sending their jobs overseas. Its NOT the government employee unions --- not many teachers or Metro North workers are competing with India.

LINative, During the Sikorsky strike, CNN reported UTC spent $21 million to acquire land in Georgia. They brag that company (Sikorsky) now has more non-Ct, than Ct employees. I fear Tetto is correct, and it goes beyond the IAM at some point, and while Ct cannot be faulted for migration to growing continenets (Asia), it can be faulted for losing state-to-state battles.

Malloy no doubt added fuel to the fire, big-time. Christie would have mitigated the problem, to the extent a governor can.
