Hello, I'm new to Connecticut.
While driving on the highway, I noticed a state trooper using it's radar gun on cars driving by and writing things down.
I'm curious, can they send out speeding tickets by mail since they do have our speed and license plates all captured?
Or are they required to hand me the ticket by a trooper?
Thank you

I have never heard of anyone being sent a speeding ticket via mail. As far as I know in CT, they will get you on radar and that cop, or the "chase car" further down the road, will pull you over right then and there and physically hand you the ticket.

This doesn't happen in Connecticut unless it's a "red light camera".

Thanks guys.
I asked because in NJ, the cop can just tailgate me for a couple of mins and send the speeding ticket in the mail later.

I'm glad CT doesn't have that.

Red Light Cameras are not legal in Connecticut so there are none. If you do see a camera at an intersection, it is there to monitor traffic and by law cannot be used for enforcement. Jay

It's still not legal? There's a few in New Haven and Stamford I've seen recently that look like they could be full blown red light cameras, but I guess they could just be elaborate sensors/cameras for monitoring traffic.

Jay is right, they are not permitted in CT. There are cameras at lots of intersections for monitoring purposes.

Personally, I think red light cameras are too big brother. Glad it failed in May.

It is funny that you mention New Haven and Stamford specifically. They are the two cities that wanted red light cameras but the concept was defeated. I agree it is too "Big Brotherish". Jay

Wow I didn't think that would be legal in any state! Thanks for the warning.....

Wow I wish that were true in NY! My objection is that they are really used strictly for "revenue" and not safety. In Yonkers, NY there's an infamous red light camera on a main shopping drag. My in-laws got a ticket from it once and it clearly said on the ticket mailed to them, "you will not get any points on your license if you pay the fine". WTF? I later found out that in NY red light cameras are legal only if the ticket doesn't produce points on your license. What a crock! CT was smart not to allow them.....
