The state has put a federal petition in to get an extension on No Child Left Behind. 40% of the students are not meeting minimum requirements.

I was shocked when I read it in the WSJ on monday (front page NY Metro Section). I was also shocked when I watched Waiting for Superman and the writer was making fun of poor southern states as AL & MI, but then said wealthy CT was not to far behind them in horrible results.

I guess the State of CT is Bi-polar. It needs an educational does of Prozac.

I think you meant MS (Mississippi), not MI (Michigan).

Keep in mind that most education experts consider the state tests that states like CT, NY and MA use to be a lot harder and more comprehensive than the ones AL and MS use, so it's not completely apples-to-apples. NY and CT did state tests long before any mandates; the Regents (NY) goes back to the early 20th century and the CMT's and CAPT's (CT) date to the mid-80s and at that time they were the only 2 states doing them.

No Child Left Behind mandates that each school make improvements EVERY year. In other words schools that do not improve their test scores after several years will be labeled as failing. This does not make any sense since some schools that are doing well overall cannot bring their grades up any higher. Should they be labeled as failing? NCLB should be abolished. Jay

It is Bi-polar!!! Ridgefield or some town up by the MA - RI border. Wilton or New Haven. There are some great disparities. Only 60% of New Haven's incoming freshman graduate

Forgot to mention Malloy is doubling charter schools and putting more money into them. Get rid of union authority of royalty ruling.

Read the Wall Street Journal; I know the man whom lives like a Budhist Monk with no materialism would read such a capitalistic paper.

It was in it monday and last week. Read the Metro-NY section (second part of sect A).

It is in the WSJ, FOX CT News, Hartford Courant. I know being unmaterialistic you won't have a tv or enjoy luxury of online newspapers.

This state needs an enema. The leadership of this state is a joke. Between those holding public office making genuninely stupid decisions and douchebag lobbyists bribing those looking to hold it, I honestly may never vote again. Every election we choose between the Bloods and the Crips - excuse me, the Republicans and Democrats - and despite all the posturing very little gets done. If this country can't start getting things done, we should lose the bald eagle as our national symbol, and replace it with the YouTube video of the puppy that can't get up:
