I've heard Woodstock covers a large area? What is it like living in Woodstock? Pros/cons please!

Woodstock is a small rural town in northeast Connecticut. It is about 61 square miles and has a populaiton of about 8,000. There is not really a lot there but it is a beautiful area with decent schools. Most people work locally or in nearby Thompson, Killingly or Putnam. This area is called the quiet corner and there is a good reason. Jay

Is Thompson better than Woodstock? Which would you rather live in, Thompson or Woodstock?

Probably Woodstock but I like the quiet. Not that Thompson is jumping either. Jay

Hike? Hunt? Drink alone? Drive to Boston?

What's the deal with that speedway? Why the heck is it in Thompson? How long has it been there?

Thompson, like the Danielson section of Killingly and Putnam, is an old mill town.

I don't know for a fact why there is a speedway there, but most towns are not jumping for joy at the thought of the noise. To Thompson, probably just the idea of having a steady tax payer in a rural town that attracts few other tax paying businesses.

IMHO Woodstock is much prettier than Thompson. People tend not to move up that way because they like to do things. Hunting and fishing are popular but most people go there to get a few acres and be left alone.

While you're wandering around north east CT, check out Putnam. Another old mill town , trying to reinvent itself. It has turned its town center into an antiques mecca, with lots of shops, a wine bar, some cafes, etc. Good place for a day trip

But if you're looking for upscale malls, big box stores, lots of kids activities, etc. this is not the place to be.
