I remember when a heat wave like this was just called.... Summer. I may finally break 90 today! Woo-hoo.

I realize that, it's the fact that it's MOVING to the west that's unusual.

I hit 90 yesterday (barely), and have been in the high 80s all week. 94 right now, this is by far the hottest day of the week.

The urban heat island effect is really pronounced though. It was 100 on Rt 1 in Darien at 5:30pm, but when I got home to Wilton around 6 it was only 86.

Exactly. While Wilton2ParkAve is sitting at home in Wilton wondering what the fuss is about, those of us living or working in urban areas are experiencing a completely different animal. I work in an urban environment and live in a small wooded town (large wooded lots, less roads). The difference in real-feel temps this week between the two has been wild.

You have to look hard but some locations still in the 80s. But again.... it's not just the temps to look at.. it's the combination of rare dewpoints this high making it feel over 100 in spots.

Current Mesonet temps and dewpoints in CT, Long Island, & parts of MA. http://www.wrh.noaa.gov/mesowest/gmap.php?zoom=8&extents=41.347948,-76.047363,43.77506,-71.488037&density=1

I'm actually in NYC most of the time, but rarely venture outside and thankfully work close to GCT. I do have a Davis station at home that pipes current readings to my phone (and my DW confirms). I am over 90 today, but holding the line at 92 with 70 humidity and 71 DP. It's warm.

I do agree with the urban heat effect... My car read 94 in S Norwalk last night at 7:30, but dropped under 80 but the time I got home 15 minutes late. 16 degree swing! My colleagues that live in lower Manhattan are claiming that the mercury never fell below 86 last night!
