I heard the announcement yesterday that Cablevision had finally reached an agreement with Tribune to restore programming.

Unfortunately, Cablevision's new agreement drops Fox affiliate WTIC-61 from the lineup for those of us in the Bridgeport area. It seems that they think we want to watch Fox5's NY newscasts, rather than a CT newscast. We also lose out on football games on Sunday, as typically Fox5 only airs the Giants games. I'm wondering if Cablevision will attempt to eliminate WFSB-3, WVIT-30, and WTNH-8 next?

Last i knew, most of Bridgeport is closer to Hartford mileage wise than it is to Manhattan mileage wise. Not to mention that Hartford and Bridgeport are in Connecticut.

Although I despise Cablevision, the major networks are behind this phenomena. New contracts are carving up the markets so that no metro can receive two affiliate channels. Cablevision's hands are tied. I hear you on Bridgeport being closer to Hartford in mileage, but I have never seen bpt listed a Hartford Metro. It is part of NY metro though.

Yeah, I feel like the general public despises the Cable Company since they are the "bad guys" who deliver the actual rate increases. And yeah, sometimes, their rate increases are ridiculous (especially a decade ago when rates were skyrocketing at crazy levels).

But I think the public often forgets that it's the major TV Network Companies that are also to blame. Like Wilton2ParkAve said, they are the ones who want to carve out markets presumably with an intent to eliminate duplicity and consolidate viewership into 1 channel (which means maximizing advertising dollars).

The major networks aren't to blame. The more affiliates they have, the more money they earn and the greater audience reach they have. It's absolutely Dolan that is giving us the shaft here.

It's not cablevision's decision. Seriously.the affiliates make less when a customer has a choice of two CBS NBC or fox stations.

NBC owns the NY(4) AND CT(30) affiliates.

Both are broadcast on Cablevision in my area.

I'm afraid that i don't understand the logic behind your argument.

NBC is paying for both stations to be broadcast in my market.

You don't understand. It is in the parents best interest to maximize audience for each affiliate as opposed to a bifurcated market. Higher viewership translates to higher advertising dollars.

You're definitely correct when you say that i don't understand. Why is NBC paying Cablevision to carry both of their stations(4 and 30) when it is "bifurcating" their bottom line, as you are contending?
