In 2009 we were ranked 32, in 2010 we were 36, in 2011 we were 35, in 2012 we were 43. Your "blame Bush" logic of looking backwards still fails to compel any worthwhile argument in favor of Malloy. But what do I know it's just another "BS" ranking. I'd love for someone to post a positive review of this state that incorporates all economic factors.

Appearing at the bottom of a think tank's list isn't of concern to me. But this is: Connecticut's Economic Trend Worst In Nation - Courant.com

I'm not economist, but I think it's safe to say the financial health of this state couldn't be worse. A few weeks ago, The Courant, a generally left-leaning paper, had a columnist write a piece on the fiscal state of Bridgeport, claiming it's more dire financial straits than Stockton, California which recently declared bankruptcy. As an independent, I will not be voting for Malloy again should he have the gaul to run. IMO he's proven incapable of even beginning to combat our budget problems and if he wins another term it will only grow worse.

Congrats, Mike. I was wondering if anyone read that article. The Courant is the only paper in Ct with a real business section, and with the guts to print that article.

Given how pithy Malloy's margin last time was, I'd bet it is safe to assume he is a lame duck. That can only help. I recall how jealous Malloy was of Christie, and NJ has enjoyed good economic growth under CC. So DM provided a reason to be jealous..his own record.

As a moderator, shouldn't you be refraining from using an abbreviation for a profane term?

Sigh... If you read the article and try and understand what it says, you will see it is not really as bleak as the headline makes it. Based on 2012 data, Connecticut's economy is not growing but notice it says back in 2010 we had what was considered one of the best economies in the country. This is simply because Connecticut['s economy is such that we get hit by recessions later than other states and come out of it later as well. During the recession we had an unemployment rate lower than the national average. When the economy turned in other parts of the country, it did not happen here. As for Molloy, well he is no worse than the previous Governors who all played a big role in where the state's finances stand. Jay

If you read the article, the dead-last spot is because of the hold back of governmental employment and financial products not doing as well. Manufacturing and services grew:

"In Connecticut, finance and insurance shaved 0.57 percentage points from the state's GDP, according to this first estimate. The size of the drop in output and salaries and bonuses in that sector was so dramatic that it almost swamped the combined total of economic growth in construction, retail and wholesale trade, tamp services, private education, arts, restaurants and hotels."

As well, I have serious reservations about using "growth rate" to signify better conditions. If person A has $100 and Person B has $1, if both gain a dollar it'd be a 1% increase for A and an 100% increase for B. Useful to know but not the end all be all of economic news.
