Default This is maddening---President inconvienences thousands of people

First off, let me say this is NOT a partisan rant and has nothing to do with Pres Obama's political beliefs.

This rant has everything to do with why we as a nation thinks its OK for thousands of people to be inconveinences by him visiting all in the name of "security"

President Obama will visit the University of Hartford on Monday afternoon between 4 and 6 p.m.
Employees should be aware that road closures will likely occur in the following areas:

Route 20 from Bradley Field to I-91
I-91 North and South between the Route 20 connection and Hartford
Albany Ave. (Route 44) near the Hartford - West Hartford Line
Cottage Grove Rd. (Route 218) between I-91 and Bloomfield Ave. (Route 189) in Bloomfield
Bloomfield Ave. (Route 189) and Albany Ave. (Route 44) in Bloomfield, West Hartford and Hartford
The eastern end of Simsbury Rd. (Route 185) near the intersection with Bloomfield Ave. (Route 189) in West Hartford
Motorists should consult the local media on Monday to check on actual closings and timing and seek alternate routes wherever possible.

Also, traveling employees arriving or departing from Bradley International Airport can expect delays for their flights, as airspace will be restricted during the visit.

OK.....so we think that the security of the pres in MORE important in this country than inconvienencing thousands of people trying to get home from work (Which PAYS HIS SALARY!!).

I'm all for reasonable security in protecting the most powerful man in the world, but WTH do we need to shut down I-91 for crying out loud.

The public ought to be outraged at this.

People DO realize.....I hope.........that there are HUNDREDS of people who can replace the POTUS God Forbid if something happened to him. While I think we should respect the highest office in the land, I DON'T think we need to be going to these extremes to protect him.

They know the risk of something bad happening when they take office as do many other workers in hazardous occupations such as cops, firefighters, etc.

Obama is landing at BDL. Not sure if the two are related.

Relax. The closures will be sporadic and short lived. There should be minimal affect on the evening commute.

You're right... The President could take a bus-- or maybe hail a cab when he gets to Bradley. Maybe rent a car from Avis? (It'd better be American!)

Ever been to NYC when the President is in town? This really is nothing.

No, he should still be able to take his motorcade----I have no problem with that. Just don't close down the main N-S artery of central CT just so he can ride in said motorcade.

This was done by the Connecticut State Police - not by the Obama Administration.

You know they do this for EVERY President, regardless of which side of the political aisle he is on. The same thing would've happened if GW Bush or Reagan were visiting Hartford.....Clinton as well!
