However currently in our society, we have collectively decided that you will never succeed unless you head directly for that 4 year degree, even if it is a BA in Eastern Philosophy.
Also when "supply and demand" means many jobs that never required one (and don't really need one) do so as well.

And none of those are related to UCONN. I'm speaking about the branches at Stamford, Avery Point, Waterbury, Hartford and I believe Torriington has one too.

Too elite??

Absolutely NOT. And I can offer clear proof.

UConn is now running in the same company with Memphis, Houston, South Florida, Cinny, SMU and Tulane. And I guess East Carolina. Although trying to figure out who's in that is like trying to hit a moving target.

..and I know, this is supposed to be about academics, but couldn't resist...

From another perspective, perhaps state universities should not be "elite" but run to the maximum benefit of the tax payers?

This is how elitist poison-ivy leaguers classify schools.

I would switch Quinnipiac and UConn.

My experience so far in the finance industry in lower FFC is that unless you're from a top 25 school, all the others are pretty much the same. Going to UConn would be considered no more better than any UMass, SUNY, or any school between 25 and 100. My advice for people in that category would be to focus on the best course choices that will set you up to do what you want to do and school's with the best learning formats. If you really specifically know what you want to do then start specializing from the start rather than getting a more general portfolio of courses. See if there are certifications you can obtain while studying in college.

I wouldn't. High price doesn't equal prestige…and I don't regard either as "prestige". Not knocking either school, just saying.

UConn should continue to raise its standards. There were a lot of knuckleheads in my classes (School of Engineering Class of 2010) but my department seems to have made some improvements.

I agree with what Susan Herbst is doing, aiming for the UMichigans of the world. I also think she's right on the money in moving components of the school to Hartford. Having all the students in Storrs does not make economic sense.

Fixed. I went to UConn myself. It's the #1 public university in New England. Google it.

Nobody should ever, I repeat, ever degrade UConn. It's a prestigious university and I got two degrees from there.
