As we discussed previously in the thread, your friends and family failed to research properly and are now suffering the consequences of their rash decision. But do remember, the counties that most relocate to have an equally high (and some higher) HDI than CT counties. You can’t look at state vs state because once you leave the urban northeast, states are massive.

And the vast majority in my age bracket I know who left would never return.

That’s not easy in NIMBY CT communities. But CT housing is becoming more and more affordable as time goes on, so there’s that.

Nothing matters more in terms of expenditures, in terms of total $, then housing cost, utilities, state income tax cost, and all property tax cost.

Sales tax differentials are chump change.

Exactly. I've itemized how much I'd need to buy in groceries to equal my state income tax burden and it's just not possible even for 2 people. I've posted that here before and it was ignored.

Agreed!

And you believe driving to work should be taxed! Once it all shakes down, I guarantee my toll tax will be higher than any grocery tax would be!

You say it should make a significant difference, but we heard that about the income tax and again with the casinos in the 90s.

BTW how much are they bringing in with that $10 parks fee and where's that going?

And the majority of those that stayed here (and that is a lot more than have left) are happy here. Jay

Two households on my street moved south already (one retired, one not).

Three or four others are making plans (counting me). And not necessarily after retirement.

Quite a few friends have moved out of state to various places: northern New England, Florida and the southwest. None of them were retired. Others are working on it.

I see what seems to be a high amount of houses for sale in the East Hartford/Manchester area. No idea if this is normal for this time of year, but seems like a lot to me.

Well, My neighbor who moved to Tx is running a large staff for NY life insurance. Other than the heat and lack of NY Yankees,NY Pizza he loves it and saves much more money than he ever did living in NY. The other Neighbor told me she should have moved to NC 15 years prior. She's very happy there. Excellent schools around Mooresville and nice neighbors. Weather is hot but they have a lake to party at a block from their home. Her kids like it too.

There’s also the study that 50% of people plan to leave. Unfortunately, many don’t realize how good things can be until they try it. I’d never suggest anyone live in the same town/area their entire lives. Those who do are truly missing out.

As was pointed out, that study was flawed. It relied on compulsory responses from a very limited number of people. Of course it got such a negative response. People that have a gripe will answer it while those without one will move on. It’s human nature. Jay

You’re right. Most of these clickbait studies are flawed, just like the one you posted with “happiest residents”. They are all BS.

Ideanomics has revealed its proposed design for its $400 million Fintech Village project on the old UConn campus in West Hartford. There’s a nice fly through the project. Looks great. Jay

Interesting if they can pull it off. Very Silicon Valley campus-esque.
