Don’t get me wrong. We just traded our Grand Cherokee (done with Jeeps; they’re crap) for a midsized luxury SUV. But we also have a much more handsome income than we did 10 years ago.

It might affect someone who *needs* to trade in their car and lives paycheck to paycheck. And again, I’ll reiterate that it’s not one tax that hurts people; it’s the totality of all these new taxes/tax rates. You don’t really notice a difference until you move to another state and aren’t nickel and dimed at every corner. It was eye opening to me.
A 4Runner? you can't kill that engine, you won't be needing a trade-in fee for 20 years.

The question is then why do they "need" to trade in the car? is it dead? can it just be donated for parts with a tax write-off, no trade-in fee required. Maybe it's worthless but the dealer gives them $500 for it as an incentive to buy, they come out $400 on top.

I know, I'm annoying, I have an answer for everything.

We ended up with an Acura MDX. Far more reliable than the Grand Cherokee, which had electrical problems from day one.

Anyway, that’s why I had to trade my Altima. It was dead and in need of thousands in repairs. Yes, I got a lot of miles out of it, but donating it for a tax write off wasn’t as good as trading it for $2k (ish). And while you say they might come out on top - are they really? After ~5 years of making payments on a car, surely it’s worth something. Decent tires alone can be worth a few hundred in scrap.

As much as you seem to be discounting the affect these taxes on a sole consumer or taxpayer, you have to admit, they are getting jaw droppingly ridiculous. Even my most liberal CT friends (who chastised me for NOT voting democrat) are saying “enough is enough”.

Edit to add: I won’t be paying any trade in fee. After spending three decades in CT, I left almost 2 years ago.

Macys to cut 78 in South Windsor distribution hub
So while Macy’s is laying off 78 workers in South Windsor, it is hiring 2,000 in Cheshire. While most of these are seasonal jobs, some will lead to full time employment. Jay

Corrupt Democrats continue to ruin the state. This is just awful.

Except that this exact same thing was going on during the 20 years we had a Republican Governors. This is not new and not entirely the Democrats fault. It’s not illegal either. Jay
