Fun fact: DC spends the most money on public education, yet has the worst results. On the other hand Utah spending is near the bottom and results are always in the top 10. Your attitude is exactly why CT is swirling down the drain; no matter the problem, just throw more money at it. God forbid actually reforming education or union contracts. No, we can't do that. It would be a crime to make govt workers retire at 65 like everyone else.
Spot On.

I eagerly await when, not if, Illinois must declare bankruptcy, or else have DC bail them out.

That will awaken NJ & Ct to outrageous legacy costs.

Il will be the first of several btw.

It’s certainly not boosting graduation rates and test scores. Dollars does not equate to results. We also spend more on retirement benefits, mainly pensions, than all active employees. We’ve created this disaster. Push out retirement age and move current employees to DC plans effective immediately (employers would contribute existing DB dollars contributed). Let’s also audit our out of control spending. We spend almost as much money as NJ for each sq foot of construction and per square mile of road paved. Why? And and and. Companies and individuals don’t want to come here until we get our some fiscal prudence and reduce on ponzi liabilities.
It comes down to one thing. Democrats vote boatloads of benefits for unions. Unions turn out and vote Democrats back in power. Repeat.

Anyone who is not in a union and votes for Democrats is voting against their own interest.

Connecticut Republicans are almost as bad. But they are not worse.

Affluent based on what? If I make $200K in CT am I better off than if I make $150K in Texas? Probably not given that there is no state income tax in Texas, and the sane $1M house in Fairfield can be had for under $500K in Houston or Dallas. Democrats always love to talk about how much wealthier blue states are but always forget that pesky little thing called cost of living.

In fact California is has the highest poverty rate in the country when cost of living is taken into account. And NY state is #3.

"During the same period, California had the highest poverty rate, 20.6 percent, according to the census’ Supplemental Poverty Measure. That study does account for cost-of-living, including taxes, housing and medical costs, and is considered by researchers a more accurate reflection of poverty. For a two-adult, two-child family in California, the poverty threshold was an average of $30,000, depending on the region in the state, according to a 2014 analysis by Public Policy Institute of California."

TRUE: California has the nation

Why would you think we should be less? The entire region is expensive. That includes New York and Massachusetts which we are right in between. Jay

More a question of IF, sadly.

US gains 2.1 million in 2017.

Last quarter, Ct LOST 15,500.

Well in fairness, it doesn't cost 10X to build the actual road. It costs 10X since there are 10X as many no-show, no-work "employees" on every project in CT.

That is my axe to grind. Hopefully we will see more public to private infrastructure projects which will very quickly expose the waste.
