How does Publix compare to Big Y, in your opinion? I've been in Publix only a couple times, but i don't recall it being an out of this world grocery store. It seemed about equal to Big Y.

Publix is a nice supermarket, but I certainly wouldn't drive too far out of my way to shop at one if they were to open in a CT town that was not convenient to me. A Wegman's on the other hand -- I'd fill up my tank and drive halfway across the state if needed I'm exaggerating of course, but honestly I'd put a 10 mile limit on a Publix (meaning that's how far out of my way I'd go to get to one). Wegman's, however, easily scores 25 miles in my book! Anyway, I think there's a much better chance of seeing Wegman's in our future than FL-based Publix.

I would say very comparable, though my experience with Big Y is limited to the one in New Milford, which is very nice. Not sure if they're all like that though...

Wegman's is the best grocery store that exists in America. CT doesn't have any though.

We have a Wegmans in Fredericksburg. If any of you are thinking about relocation to Virginia, Fredericksburg would be your Wegmans location.

I think I'm remembering right - I went to a Publix at the Villages in the Leesburg/Ocala area. They had a cooking demo to promote a new product, showing everyone the exact recipe, how easy it was to make, offering add-on suggestions, and providing free samples and coupons. They have a whole little canopy in the store dedicated to cooking demos, that they apparently run a few times throughout the day.

I thought that was a lot more fun than simply handing out samples - though samples are always good, no matter what store you're shopping in

I lived in Florida and Publix bakery is the best bakery you will find down south. Publix is cleaner, nicer, better selection, and makes the best fried chicken, subs/wedges (which ever you prefer), and overall is better then Winn-Dixie
