Agree completely with going to Orange St- which is in the East Rock area. After you decide on that, if you have about 10-15 minutes just drive to George St for curiosity sake. I do agree that if you are used to urban areas then it will be fine.
If you are not then you will not feel comfortable. Good luck.

To be clear, a lot of George street is perfectly fine. They're building hundreds of luxury apartments on College. It's the area in question that's a bit borderline. West of it is worse.
