Yeah, on a 4 day tour. On that tour, I made an offer on the house for 150K, and after a few bidders drove the price up to 175K .

You purchased a house THAT fast? Wow. To me, a home purchase is an important, big decision that requires at least several months of looking. You should have gotten an apartment first and rented for 6-12 months, that way you become familiar with the area and know precisely what you want.

That doesn't mean you won't enjoy the home, however. Enjoy!

I made the offer ~ a week and a half ago. The people were "poor" so they kept raising the price by 1K, until I just put 175K in and shut everyone else out. The job was am offer I can't resist.

Be sure to vote!

Rochester metro area is quite similar to Hartford metro. The urban core is very blighted, for the most part. Actually, Hartford is probably even worse). But the surrounding suburbs are desirable. And the area is right next to Lake Erie, which is nice.

Wegmans:

There are two rumors why Wegmans wont move into Albany/Connecticut.

Rumour #1: The founder of Wegmans and the founder of Price Chopper are good friends, so they made deals to not open near each other to reduce competition. There are no Price Choppers in Upstate NY and there are in CT. There are no Wegmans in CT but there are Price Choppers. In Massachusetts, the two stores are no where near each other. The only two cities where they meet is in Binghamton and Syracuse, NY. That is a likely reason they have no plans to expand in CT/Albany in the next decade.

Rumour #2: Price Chopper and Stop & Shop teamed up to keep Wegmans out of CT/Albany. That is another likely reason, since there is no Stop & Shops or Price Choppers in Upstate NY, and the two supermarkets are in where there is no Wegmans. That is another likely reason.

I like the theory, but FYI there are not only Price Choppers in Upstate NY, Price Chopper is headquartered in Schnenectady. We used in the live in the area, and there are Price Choppers not only in the Capital District but as far west as Oswego and Cooperstown.

None that I know of in Rochester or Buffalo. No Wegmans in Cooperstown also. Not a single Stop & Shop west of Albany, however (that I know of).
