CT is the one with the quarantine, not the feds or NY state.

They weren't showing symptoms, so they weren't contagious. Unless you believe it's airborne, in which case NYC would be largely doomed right now.

This is definitely not an airborne virus otherwise West Africa would be a lot worse than it is. Doctors on the news this morning were pointing this out. Jay

They volunteered to be quarantined. They just came back from West Africa and wanted to be safe. Very smart and a proactive step by this family. Hats off to them.

Yeah. There's a group of people online desperate to spread such rumors though.

Pretty sure it's not voluntary, they have cops guarding the house to make sure they don't leave.

Yeah, not voluntary, just a lag between them coming into the country and the state being notified of that by the federal government.

It was voluntary..Family of six under precautionary Ebola quarantine in West Haven, Connecticut | 7online.com

Read the article. It says the police officer is there to check on them twice a day to make sure they have what they need.

This virus is only contagious when someone shows the symptoms and only contagious through bodily fluids including sneezing, spit, and cough. If you don't directly contact the person or their extractions your fine. It's NOT spread through air, water or food!

And what better place than NYC to run this whole story. Soon you will hear about a "push" for vaccines similar to the swine flu.

Also, does anyone know previous medical historys of those who died from this virus? Something to think about as well.

Also, his fiancé was next to him in the same bed which hasn't shown signs of the virus and yet millions of others are worried?

Did you know it's been around for decades? Population is more now so the stories will be more common. I wonder if they had vaccines in the 70s.

The airport screening process IS A JOKE!! They should be quarantined for 21 days there in Africa or here when they get here. These doctors/people go to that country to help then, then come here to potentially screw us.

It takes over a week for symptoms to show up so measuring for a fever after leaving that infested area is pointless.

I agree. The issue here is not the spread of ebola (which is very difficult to get), but the panic that could ensue if people think they are exposed. To prevent the panic, don't give any more visas to people from the affected countries in Africa and place all U.S. citizens who have been to those countries in quarantine for 21 days after arrival.
