My FS doesn't say "I want to eliminate the income tax" like Boughton does because he is more realistic. My FS is really closer to a Centrist like me than a true Republican. But I bet the Republicans won't vote for him because he is too young and not far right enough.

**He is trying to make income taxes less regressive instead of eliminating them and putting regressive taxes on the middle class and poor. He is also for legalizing marijuana. Older Republicans don't want that.

***This might keep more seniors in the state and spur more economic growth.

I like his tax plan. My only concern is going to be his stance on the opiod crisis. Looks focused on increasing law enforcement instead of expanding DMHAS. Wants to less environmental regulations in the State, which is good. Still hope will increase funding to DEEP.

Still this guy's tax plan does interest me.

One thing I do know is that under Herbst all of our cops now carry Narcan to keep people dying of an overdose. When the police save a life I know he is very proud of that. I see his posts. Hopefully that would carry over at the state level.

I wish these kind of things could be done, but with the enormous deficits (and no indication that the state economy will significantly improve in the near future), I don't see how these huge tax cuts can happen. The spending reductions on the table and proposed won't make up the difference. Then there is the unfunded pensions issue. Being realistic, or maybe pessimistic, I see tax increases, not decreases, coming our way.

Even if the state introduces tolls, taxes soda and other sweet drinks, legalizes marijuana, adds another casino, etc., it's hard to believe that increases in broad-based taxes won't also be needed.

I don't think the potential candidates of either party want to say this, neither apparently does the governor or legislature.

Tim Herbst interview with Al Terzi

The Real Story: Trumbull First Selectman Tim Herbst | FOX 61

BTW, Tony Hwang from Fairfield is also running for Governor as noted in this interview. I see him at my Starbuck's in Trumbull on occasion and have had conversations with him . He is a very fine man and seems like a true centrist even though he runs as a Republican.

The two main things that are plaguing CT were happening in Trumbull. The pension plan for our town employees was underfunded and businesses were moving our because of tax increases. The year Tim Herbst ran the Democrats had proposed a 11.6% tax increase. I would have had to sell my house if that tax increase happened and if the taxes kept going up like that.

My husband and I call him "the kid". This kid took office and turned things around in less than 6 years. Last year I had a tax DEDUCTION in my real estate taxes because of so many company moving to Trumbull. This is why I am so impressed with him. It is not the fact my taxes went down (although that is good news in itself) but the fact that the town was in such a bad way with tax increases far out pacing inflation and a 11.6% tax increase if the Democrats won. He did not walk into an easy situation and build upon it, but quite the contrary.

That is what is so amazing. He had only been out of college a few years when he became our FS. He was a real estate lawyer for a few years before.

WTF is it with Democrats and tax increases? That's the only thing they can ever offer, and then they wonder why their losing elections all the time.

I have to admit that I was voting for the Democrats in Trumbull until I realized I would have taxed myself out of my house.

I know I am going to get tarred and feathered for this on this site but I voted for Malloy twice too. OK, you can let me have it.
