I just moved here three months ago, and am still trying to figure out why people scowl when speaking of our governor's name. I checked out a few pages about him, and there seems to be a lot of talk of the taxes he has raised. Is that why we don't like him? Is there hope in the upcoming 2018 elections? A recent NYT time pointed to Connecticut as the model state for gun control laws.

Honestly, you can point to this or that policy or tax or business that left CT, but I think a lot of it has to do with his personality. He's just kind of weasily. And he seems incapable of talking to people, just at them.

You're going to get a wide array of answers here. At the most basic level the Governor of a state is the number #1 person in rank of that state (IOW, power) and they become the scapegoat(s). If CT was booming with dollar bills falling out of cash registers there would still be a group who would not credit the Governor, just because. This is especially evident at the National level (i,e, President)

It's the nature of politics.

One thing I do know for sure, is the next Governor isn't going to fix anything either, and most people especially on this board are going to blame Malloy for that person's failures too.

At least Malloy laid out the issues, whether or not they can be solved is another topic.

Not sure how it is the nature of politics --- that in one of the most blue states we have a democratic governor that is the lowest rated in the country. Under Malloy we have had endless tax hikes (without entitlement reform), business departures, and an increasingly disturbing trend of economic migration away from the state.

We have terrific lobster rolls, too.

Equally unimportant, when your state has been amongst the worst at recovering jobs lost during recession during Comrade Malloy's reign of error.

When his answer has been one tax hike after another.

When corps warned him not to raise taxes, he did, they fled, and he whined over what should have been expected results.

He now ranks 50th in popularity amongst governors, a ranking he earned each and every day.

Weird how Comrade Malloy refused to raise taxes on hedge fund managers. Workers of the world unite!

The number #1 person is always the scapegoat. If you don't like politics as an example then use business. The CEO is the person who gets blamed if a company goes out of business, not the janitor.

I think it was Harry S. Truman who had a plaque on his desk in the Oval Office that read "The Buck stops here" It's the same deal with Malloy.

The Governor and the US President positions basically exist to have "veto power" their respective powers are extremely limited by our political system. Anything they approve or disapprove has been passed by the legislature first. Blaming one person for a failed policy, law, or outcome, is silly.

Local politicians have a far greater impact on our day to day lives, and that is one area where its fairly easy to be heard as a citizen since most towns in CT still have "town hall meetings" and can voice their opinions during these meetings.

Also, lets not forget Trump forgot to raise their taxes too despite saying he would during his campaign.
