I'm sorry, yeah I'm biased, but Branford shoudl be much higher than 81. Hamden at 55 with Branford at 81? Branford is a FAR better place to raise a family than Hamden.

I'd like to know where these stats came from and what stats you used to make this list that rated Branford so much lower than Hamden, because I'm calling bs on that.

Agreed.
Not sure how hamden is 55, but stratford is 95? They are fairly similiar towns, imo. Also, i feel that branford(81) and milford(89) are obviously better choices than hamden.

Same here. Both Branford and Milford are great towns with very good schools. If crime stats were used, the fact that Milford has a mall would skew the data significantly for non-violent crimes (shoplifting, etc). I'm also not sure why the OP ranked Branford so low.

gobosox - can you post the data used?

Well, those are six of my fave eight, so I'm gonna vote that in the top 10 will be: Madison and Deep River

I'll also add Ridgefield to the top ten list, so my guesses so far include:

Monroe
Newtown
Ridgefield
Stamford

I added Stamford there too, because I didn't see it on the list already. I personally wouldn't put Stamford in the top 10 overall though, only if we were comparing cities. I personally prefer towns to cities.

This is an interesting discussion. I would like to see a post with the exact methodology. Then we could maybe offer some suggestions for refining it, so that it agrees with my opinion

Is any advantage given for being on/near salt water?

Also, might as well rank every town (no need to post the bottom 20? -- unless someone really wants to know). I would like to see Chester included.

Where did this list come from? Who/What formulated it?

The OP designed it using their own methodology.

This is so very subjective...I agree that if you use crime stats it kinda skews it- Clinton has the outlet mall which has all sorts of bad checks/shoplifting sort of crimes. If you take any town that has a shopping mall it will skew it.
