Decade Snow Updated. Bridgeport surpassed last years total...But it still feels like a 1980s pattern with the warmth and lack of snow. 1980s had every winter below normal with snowfall.

Total opposite from the 2010s, the snowiest decade (for BDR)

Here's NYC and Providence in case you're interested. Interesting how the 1990s was the least for PVD not far off from 1980s.
And 1950s was the least for NYC not far off from 1980s

Spoiler

So in 1995-1996 NYC got over 75 inches of snow/....and Providence got 21 inches.

AND Boston got 107 inches.

That does not really have to do with how warm or cold the current temps are locally....more the direction of where the low pressure systems move. For the East Coast below Boston, a storm/low pressure in winter that moves well inland to our west, will always dry warm and moist air for the Gulf of Mexico and tropical Atlantic. That's exactly what will happen by Wed, strong southwest winds will push the cold /dry air northeast...and replace it with warm moist air:

Warmup yes but... no sun except for tomorrow. Crappy week coming. Ugh..
Stupid stalled fronts

At least the rain will wash the salt residue away

No doubt we are in for a rather bland weather in the next 6 days. I suppose the only real weather drama is how warm might temps get by the end of the week?

Following the Tuesday/Wednesday system, a stronger and more moisture laden wave moves through. This brings a better surge of warmer air with it, and while the chance of rain increases considerably, it looks pretty mild...in fact, it appears we`ll crack 50 F across all of Connecticut. However, if the jet is a little stronger, there is very warm air just to our south (60's F reaching into Delaware and Maryland). Would not be shocked in NWS pushes forecast highs a bit higher by mid week:

Not only with this be interesting to see how it plays out, but what will this do to area mean temps for the month? NWS Bridgeport went from 3.5 F above normal last week, to just 1. 7 F above normal now (and it will fall again after they average in today). However, by Tuesday, warmer than normal seems a good bet at least until next weekend. Where will NWS Bridgeport (and Bradley) fall by the last day of the month?

Nothing extreme but not many times past 10 yrs we had a stretch of cold like this.

7 days in a row at or below freezing for coastal CT.

Didn't expect this morning to be back in the teens! Single digits for some of us. No wind + snowpack = radiational colding

Looks like New Haven reported low of 21 and Bridgeport a low of 19 F. So it looks like coastal locations seemed to have stayed a bit higher than yesterday morning.

However, NWS Bridgeport's monthly mean has really taken a hit = it now stands at only 1.2 F above normal.

The normal January mean temp at Bridgeport is 31.4 F...with a high/low of 38/24 F. It looks like Bridgeport is now 32.9 F for the month, with a high/low of 39/26 F. So we are not far from normal. It was been a month of temps are over the place, with highs in the last 7 days struggling to get to 30 F...and temps in the mid 50's F.

Numerically, the numbers really won't move much today through Wed...but did notice NWS upped the forecast highs/lows for Thur and Fri. These days may have lows and highs more than 15 F above normal. It will be interesting to see what they do to the final monthly averages for January 2024?

Not like we haven't seen this recently right? I feel like at least once every January the last few years we've touched 60s no?
