Anyhow as an Oracle Programmer he might make 60K instead i think it can go up from their but that would depend on his experience level.

Only downside is the Torrington area doesn't have a lot of jobs in the IT field it's more blue collar stuff in that area. So your DH would likely have to commute to Hftd of New Haven which would be a commute (50 min for hartford, more for New Haven)

But its all a matter of whats most important to you..
*snort* Apparently you have never been to Montana. Its not that I am saying being far from malls or schools are not important to me but we don't have that here so I don't think I would be missing much Our mall has a JC Pennys and a Dillards and that is pretty much it.

Not loving the idea of a commute though. We were hoping that maybe telecommuting would be a possibility.

We aren't necessarily looking to be better off financially, although that wouldn't hurt but we would like a better quality of life. And there is nothing here for us really. There has to be more to life than drinking and working. I am not a drinker so that cuts the things to do here by half right there.

You might also consider Connecticut's so called 'Quiet Corner' in the eastern part of the state. Very rural, small towns, farms, wineries, historic museums, state forests, antiques, the arts- half way between Hartford and Providence and close to the coast and beaches.

Real estate is also cheapest here. Quiet Corner - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Towns like Tolland, Coventry, Stafford, Bolton & Willington are closer to Hartford. Pomfret, Woodstock, Brooklyn & Putnam ooze with charm and are closer to the Rhode Island state line.

From Tolland to Hartford is 19 miles- Pomfret to Hartford or Providence about 32 miles.
For shopping- Manchester and South Windsor have everything. Eastern CT in Killingly has the new Killingly Commons- with Some new big box stores, a large supermarket, Target, TJ Maxx, Staples, Lowe's, Bed, Bath & Beyond & more.

Greater Hartford metro ranks as the 21st best in the USA and Canada for visual & performing arts. The New Science center downtown on the banks of the CT river is an iconic structure.

Yale in New Haven is 35 miles to the south. Providence RI is a wonderful city, with Brown, Providence College, the Rhode Island School of Design- and A rebuilt downtown.
