I had to correct a guy I met in the Bronx yesterday from Henderson, NV. He commented on "Green-witch" and rolled his eyes *jokingly* when I said it is pronounced "Gren-itch".

I read somewhere, too, that Berlin used to be pronounced like the German city but was changed during one of the World Wars.
How do you pronounce Tokeneke, in Darien?

Naugatuck - pronounced very quickly by us locals. Sounds mostly like "Naw-duk". Same with Higganum - "Hig-num". Rolls off the tongue after about 20 years of practice.

Harwinton - Har-wing-ton to the locals.

Wolcott is "Wool-kit", Southington is SUTH-ing-ton. Avon was once Northington since both were originally part of Farmington. To mimic the OLD CT accent we can say FAAA-mington and HAAA-tford (flat A, not AH).

New Britain - New Brit'n or New Britski to the Polish locals.

Berlin is BER-lin since WW1. They changed the pronunciation to distance themselves from Germany. Berlin NH did the same.

New Haven is N'Haven or nu Wavin. East Haven is referred to as 'Stavin' by the locals.

New Haven is not N'Haven or nu Wavin. It's New Haven, with the stress on "Hav" (not "New").
How does one pronounce Devon, a village in Milford? (Dev' in, or Du vahn'?)

I've noticed a lot of people in the East Haven/Branford area say "Nuh HAYvin".

One ridiculous one I have heard is when people pronounce Vernon as "vernON" instead of "vernIN" as it should be.
