Again, listen to the people who live in the area. Jay, with all due respect, you live in the suburbs and don’t have to deal with this area on a day-to-day basis.

So you live in this area right now? You note two incidents that happened years ago as reason to dismiss the neighborhood. Like I said, that does not make sense.

Also, where I live has nothing to do with it. I have knowledge of the area and an impression of the area. I know people that live in the area. Is it perfect, no. But then again no where is. Jay

Looks like that would be the place

Thanks!

If you go 100 yards on one direction and you will be in a very nice area. 100 yards the other way and you are in a not so nice area. A female LLM student was beaten with a pistol and robbed in the lobby of her apartment building in Clemens Place a few years ago and right around the same time there was a rape at the gas station on the corner of Sherman St. and Farmington Avenue, not even 100 yards from the law school.

I would recommend that you stay at least two blocks north of Farmington Avenue and west of the law school (ideally west of Prospect if you can). This puts you somewhere north of Fern Street. You do not want to be anywhere east of the law school or south of Farmington Avenue.

Of course, the suburbs would be better if you can afford them. If you do go to the suburbs stay on the same side of the river. That means West Hartford and Farmington are your best targets.

No matter what they tell you at the law school, do not go to Clemens Place. Avoid it like the plague.
Great tips Aville!! really great!!... thanks!!

I suggest you invest in an inexpensive vehicle. In the winter, busses can get delayed due to weather and road conditions. You may not want to be late for your classes, plus it's awfully hard to do your groceries.

I agree with the other posters...stay NORTH of Farmington Avenue.

I'm thinking in one car for the family (a SUV or Van)... I thinks it not to necesary to invest in two cars... no?

Or maybe a Suv/Van and a little car (hatchback or something? for me?)

I read in a post that the transportation is quite good.

Most families have 2 vehicles. Your wife would need to be able to take your children to school, and more importantly to a doctor if necessary if you are away. If you need a pediatrician, I highly recommend West Hartford Pediatrics. Their office is along Farmington Avenue in West Hartford.

Where you live has a lot to do with it. You don't spend the night in the area. You have only second hand knowledge of it. How can you dismiss the first hand accounts of people who live in the area? Based on what? Hearsay? Wishful thinking?

The fact that it is not perfect is not on point. The OP asked for honest opinions not whitewash. Granted Farmington Ave is not Watts or anything but there are issues that have to be taken in to account. My point is that there are good places in the area for OP but Farmington Ave ain't one of them.
