My husband and I are moving from texas to new haven and we are currently looking at places to rent within new haven. We saw an apartment we really liked located on Sheffield ave by Science park. We were wondering what neighborhood this is located in and whether it is safe or not?

Sheffield borders Newhallville, which is not considered a safe neighborhood. I wouldn't recommend it. A lot of graduate students live on Prospect and further down on Mansfield, closer to the main campus. Many more live in East Rock - this neighborhood is comparatively safer with fewer recent reports of muggings.

Science Park is not located in the best area itself - things get rough fairly quickly as you move west. If you will be working in that area, you could either commute on foot (but I wouldn't recommend it after dark), or Yale has a shuttle service set up that runs back and forth to central campus during the day.

Thanks so much inetlom! We asked some other people about the area and found out someone got shot there a week or two ago...definitely won't be moving there.
