I have an old 13" Magnavox TV/VCR combo that I bought on ebay. It actually plays fine and records fine with OTR, but that means I have to be home to start the recording. For timed recordings, it looks like you can ONLY put in one of those programming codes (honestly, I didn't know they were still even used) -- I think they are called VCR Plus + codes? I cannot find ANY option for a regular, timed recording, e.g., for 8 to 11 p.m. on Monday 5/20/13. I have about a dozen of those old 13" TV/VCRs, mostly Emerson but a couple of other Magnavoxes, and they all allow regular timed recording by day/time, so this is very bizarre to me.

I do a TON of recordings for my teaching/research, but I have to be able to input the days/times myself -- not some code from a TV listing (which probably doesn't even exist any more!). Does anyone have one of these old Magnavox units, and if so, do you know how to do a regular timed recording where you input the days/times yourself?

I hope I'm not the only one who has one of these ...

With a model number we can possibly find the manual to give you an answer.

Well, I saw your reply (thanks!) and went to check the back of the unit for the model number ... and while I was back there, I thought I would go again through the procedure of TRYING to set a timer recording, so I could be detailed about what I did. And ... I am a dope. On one screen it tells me to input a code and it shows this: (12345678) . It just occurred to me that it maybe was asking me if I wanted to do my FIRST recording or my SECOND or whatever. So I hit 1 on the remote ... and it worked.

Yep. That was it.

I DO appreciate your response, and I will rep you for trying!! But I am feeling pretty silly right now!!

Wait 'til you get to the "Dang, what the heck did I walk in this room for?" stage, or you spend time searching for keys in your hand.
