Now to wonder what will replace Gabe's by Staples? Not sure if it is a good enough location for Marshalls. Maybe a Dirt Cheap store or a Gordman's or Burkes Outlet?

My personal hope - An Ashley Furniture Outlet Center like the one in Hixson.
The current Gabe's used to be a Rugged Wearhouse which is the same company as Gabe's. As they've done in places like Johnson City and Hickory NC, I wouldn't be surprised if the current Gabe's reverts back to a Rugged Wearhouse. But who knows.

County mayor Randy Porter confirmed on his Facebook page that Gabe's will be going into the old Hobby Lobby. He also said the old KMart building is going to be renovated for another new business coming to Cookeville but didn't say what it was.

They're working feverishly to get it ready to open soon. I haven't heard yet when the official opening date is, but it's gotta be getting close.

It was a nice day yesterday to go around town taking pictures. Here are some of the larger commercial projects under construction in town:

The new Holiday Inn on Willow.

A new office building on 1st Street downtown. I think it's going to be anchored by some medical offices.

Medical offices (eye clinic?) off of Neal Street. Another medical office under construction is off in the distance.

There's an awful lot of residential infill going on around town. It seems like every empty or run-down lot is being developed into townhomes and condos. Here are some multi-family residential developments under construction. I'm including a Google Streetview for each project for a before/after affect.

Downton North on Spring Street. Twenty condos will eventually be built here.

Townhomes on East 10th Street where a self serve car wash used to be.

Townhomes on North Dixie.

Townhomes on Chestnut Ave between 3rd and 4th streets a couple of blocks west of campus.

Apartments on Autumn Ave across the street from the university.

Townhomes on West Broad a block off of Willow.

Townhomes on North Washington by the high school.

Apartments on Dry Valley Road.

Townhomes on East Spring just east of Hwy 111.

Cross Pointe on Old Sparta Road (South Maple Ave).

I have no idea what this development is called, but it's located on East Broad just east of downtown and adjacent to Belle Acres Golf Course.

Magnolia Creek, where a run-down trailer park used to be.

That development on East Broad has a name, but I can't recall what it is at the moment. There were signs up with the name, but I guess it's possible that they have been blown down with all the crazy wind events the last couple months.

I noticed that the old Russell Stover factory has sold to a group called Plateau Property Partners. I can't find any info on Plateau Property Partners. Anyone have any idea who that is and what they have planned? With a rail spur going straight to the factory and easy access to Hwy 111, that seems like super prime commercial/industrial property that shouldn't sit empty for too long.

The development name is 700 BROAD. I was a bit surprised when I saw how much the asking price was for the houses in that development. I saw a couple listed for $275k+

I had no idea they were that much. Some have already sold. I wonder who's buying them. I guess they're marketing them to people who are coming from more expensive cities and like living downtown. These houses are larger than I thought (1500+ square feet) and from the interior pictures I've seen they are definitely plush with all the bells and whistles you'd expect in a high-end custom home. But that's still more than I'd pay although I would love to live downtown.
