Cookeville continues the recycled restaurant trend? First McAllister's Deli now Tumbleweed?

Cookeville had a Tumbleweed Grill around 25 years ago where Dunkin Donuts stands now.

If remember correctly, that was Barbwires.

I've been to a Tumbleweeds in Chillicothe Ohio when visiting my wife's family. It was OK but nothing unique; I could get pretty much anything on their menu from restaurants that are already here in Cookeville.

It was indeed Barbwires, but then changed to Tumbleweed. If memory serves me well, the transition was sometime between 1996 and 1997. The Tumbleweed brand didn't last that long....well not as long as Barbwires...again if I recall correctly.

I saw that in the Crossville thread, but I just checked at indeed and didn't see it. I didn't see any job listings for the other restaurants mentioned in that other thread, either. I think they were Perry's, TGI Friday's, and DiBella's Subs. I don't know why there were all those job postings that were online for just a few days before being taken down.

Anyway, I agree with the others, I don't think Tumbleweed or any of those others will be in the area anytime soon except maybe TGI Friday's. And even then, there are plenty of other restaurants I'd rather see come to town. But it is odd that all those mysterious restaurant jobs were posted and then removed.

On a related note, Texas Roadhouse collected bids for its Cookevile store on May 14 so I imagine we'll be seeing a groundbreaking sometime soon.

Looks like it's going to be a Hilton Home2Suites, an extended stay hotel whose main competitors are TownePlace Suites by Marriott and Candlewood Suites by Intercontinental Hotels, both of which also recently opened in Cookeville.

So reading about the budget being approved for construction of the new police headquarters. The picture shows a nice big building. My question is what is being built at that site already. I have watched it and thought it was the police station. Anyone know what the new building is?

I'm attaching a map of the area in question. The lot circled in red is where a new medical facility is being built, I think it's an optometrist's office. The lot circled in blue is where the new police HQ will be built. Site work has already started on the police HQ.

The new police HQ is going to be nice, and it's sorely needed. The current police HQ is in the basement of the performing arts center and was built when Cookeville's population was around 14,000 and had something like 20 police officers. Today Cookeville has 70 police officers and a population of 35,000 which is only growing. Once moved to the new HQ, the city's department of leisure services, which is also in cramped quarters, will take over the old police HQ. In addition, the parking lot behind the performing arts center, which is currently used for police cars, will become an extension of Dogwood Park. Here's the Google Streetview of the current police HQ:

Here's an artist rendering of the new HQ:

Now when it's said that the parking lot of the current police station will be a Dogwood Park extension, are they extending the park itself or just tearing down the fences and making it additional parking for the park?
