IMO CNN started going downhill when they let go of Aaron Brown. He was a fine, serious journalist who most of us know from his stellar coverage on 9/11, back in the day when CNN truly was the go-to station for big news events. Letting go of him was the dumbest thing CNN ever did. His absence radically changed the tone of the network and its dedication to hard news.

This, from Wikipedia:

"Brown won three Emmys, including one Emmy for his report "Streets of Iraq" during the Iraq War. In addition, Brown won a DuPont, two New York Film Society World medals and a George Foster Peabody Award.

On November 3, 2005, CNN announced that Brown would be leaving the network, with Anderson Cooper's program Anderson Cooper 360° replacing NewsNight as the flagship program in CNN's evening lineup in an effort to shift toward a younger demographic. The two had shared anchoring duties in the 10:00 PM time slot through the early fall after Cooper's break out success covering Hurricane Katrina. Many said Brown's cerebral "news for grown-ups" style would be missed, while others[who?] found him lacking.[7][8]"

And that's what it was. News for grown-ups. Not like now.

I stopped watching CNN completely a few years ago. I couldn't stomach the constant politically correct stance they took.

I have always found news stations in the US to look so much more tacky and cheap, compared to ones n the UK. I don't know why it is.

I too wondered what happened to CNN - it's become "kardashionized" - it used to be my go-to for news, but no more. I get better news from the BBC.

Interesting many here praising TWC, they are a joke now in serious weather circles, with "naming" winter storms being a good example of the sensational bandwagon they've jumped on; they've been in a tizzy all summer at the lack of hurricanes this year, their website headlines alone are hysterical, often speculating on the direction of storms 1,000 miles away.

I ditched Time Warner cable last summer and have never been happier. I save money and can go on any device in the house to get real news where and when I want it, the BBC is a popular pick or the News Hour. Bloomberg for serious business news.

The TV sits in a corner of the room, unused and unplugged, I'll probably give it away.

OT: CNN has been "entertainment" pretty much since the first O.J. Simpson trial. The other networks are a joke too; I can care less about Justin Timberlake "LIVE!" on the Today Show and the mindless banter on the local stations is equally bad. I never thought the Wasteland Speech would ever apply to the news as well, but to me at least, anything on American networks is worthless.

I can't tell the difference between CNN and TMZ. So long to the last remaining "trusted" new agency. It was nice while it lasted.

I don't know if it was before or after Pres Obama, but news channels as a whole have all gone bunkers and very opinionated, I want clear facts,,, and every week we get the who LIED the most. but when the Fox lady said Santa or Jesus was white,-- that is plain CRAZY.

I think the idea of a real News channel had been dead for a while. The network news was decent while the bigwigs thought that news could not make money. It started going downhill during the 80's. CNN brought real news back for a little while, but it did not last very long. Now, I think there is no such thing a true News channel. Real news is too boring to make real money.

The new "Weather Nation" channel does weather 24 hours a day, unlike "The Weather Channel."

I too liked watching HLN in the morning. I switched to CNN when they started replaying live court testimony from yesterday's court sessions when Casey Anthony and Jody Arias went on trial. Neither of these would have been more than a footnote to the news if Nancy Grace hadn't blown them up like it was real news.

I will NOT be watching CNN on New Years Eve. They should have more sense than to have Kathy Griffin co-host a program. I choose to have more class than to watch her see how much profanity she can get away with. Last year I emailed CNN and told them what I think.
