As far as mugshots as a form of entertainment and how it reflects upon our culture, what do you expect from a culture that has a fetish for imprisonment. We imprison a higher proportion of our population than almost any nation in the world, much less our first-world peers.

Then perhaps we have a higher proportion of our population who commit crimes that require it. What else are we supposed to do with them?
Well, getting rid of the imprisoning for pot possession would go a long way.
That's fine. But until those laws are off the books if you choose to posses/use pot you are breaking the law and risk going to jail. You can't be selective about which laws you are going to obey & enforce. I answered a post about prison over-population, and again, I ask what else are we supposed to do with people that break the law?
People often look at appearance and seldom look at the person.
