I'm starting to suspect that Gwnyeth just wants to go on a diet but doesn't want to get flack for it because she's already so thin. This is a diversion.

I saw the results of her $29 shopping excursion and what shocked me most was the 7 limes. What were those for? To add extra flavor to the other items? I can dig that she was trying to eat healthy and she probably does have a low-calorie diet similar to that (albeit a more expensive and flavorful version), so I don't hold her choices against her.

Obviously people actually on food stamps are going to go for more filling items like pasta, chicken, and potatoes, for example. But limes would be such a waste and don't provide that much bang for your buck. They aren't exactly a hand fruit and are more of a condiment to me. People usually squeeze limes to add another dimension to a dish, but it's not a staple item that someone would generally use food stamps on.

Many people I know on food stamps avoid any kind of produce whatsoever in favor of essentials like chips, pop, and ice cream. Of course Paltrow was shopping for herself and probably wasn't mindful of what someone actually on food stamps might get.

Well, in regard to the limes - imagine bottles of 99 cent soda. I drink lime and water all the time. I dont even put sugar in it. Its a flavorful and healthy alternative to soda for those of us that lean more toward a sour/salty flavors.

Also, accordng to a nutritionist I saw once addressing diabetes - it is better to mix juices with water, as you absorb both more water and more juice that way, or something like that. Its healther to drink them mixed than either one alone.

Of course, it also complements her food choices. Lime juice is a nice salad dressing on its own, if you like limes.

Sweet potatoes are also healthier than white potatoes, and probably just as filling. A normal potato is nothing but pure starch, which converts to sugar as you eat it, and then fat as your body processes it.

I love potatoes too, but Ive learned if I give up soda and white potatoes I really have little to worry about concerning gaining unwanted pounds.

Exactly this.

What she is doing is a slap in the face to all food stamp recipients.

Nahhh, I think she has a good heart, and was trying her best to help people see it was do-able. Which it is, if you are smart and have cooking skills, easy access to a supermarket, and can tolerate a starchy diet without becoming diabetic (I attribute my own diabetes to a cheap high-starch diet, even though I was careful to get enough protein and vitamins.)

I'm guessing the $29/week is for one single person? My niece with 4 illegitimate children gets $700/month plus wic for all 4 of them. The wic alone supplies all the milk, eggs, cheese, cereal, beans, and peanut butter they will ever need, so with the remainder $700, they eat very well.
oh come on now..she has 4 kids under 5 years of age? Because that is all that WIC covers.

Not very useful if you live in a weekly hotel like a lot of welfare recipients do.
